Why did you decide to pursue an MBA?

There are two main reasons why I decided to pursue an MBA. The first one is that I wanted to complement my major and learn more about business. I studied industrial engineering and therefore, I had a few business and administration courses, so I decided to study an MBA to increase my knowledge about strategy, finance, marketing, among other subjects. The second reason is that I wanted to have an international experience, having the opportunity to meet and learn from people from all over the world, and to learn French.

What was the hardest thing about the MBA application process?

I think preparing the GMAT was the hardest part of the process because it was the only task that the result may be not related to the time spent on preparation.

Why did you decide to study at HEC Paris in particular?

There were three main factors that I wanted to have in my MBA experience: I wanted to study in one of the top universities in the world, learn a new language and live in a city and a continent with a broad cultural richness. HEC Paris is the MBA that best combines the factors mentioned above.

How have you profited from your experience studying for an MBA?

Every day, I apply the knowledge acquired in the MBA. When I studied the MBA, I followed the finance track and I did my internship in Ibersuizas (a Spanish Private Equity firm) and I am still working in this area in Chile.

Can you tell us a bit about what you're working on now?

I am partner at EPG Partners. EPG is a Chile-based financial advisory boutique which specializes in corporate finance, wealth management and private equity. Specifically, I work in the PE Area where we have acquired 6 companies through 3 funds from different sectors and industries such as technology, retail, security and paving-construction.

What challenges do you have working in this sector?

There are several challenges working in Private Equity. I have to search for excellent investment opportunities, companies with the potential to increase their value by 3 times by implementing an ambitious and thorough business plan led by an outstanding executive team. I have to deal with people from very different backgrounds and industries to implement those plans and I have to keep updated about a range of companies and industries to find the best opportunities.

What are your plans for the future?

We are starting to divest our first companies therefore we are preparing to launch a new fund (US$ 200-300 million target size of the new fund) in the next 18 months targeting investment in 6-7 mid cap Chilean companies.
