Frequently Asked Question

One of our major key competitive advantages is the diversity of our participants. We do not look for a specific profile. On the contrary, we look to have a maximum of diversity among our participants.

Over 50 nationalities coming from diverse horizons such as architecture, medicine, engineering, mathematics, art and history are gathered in the MBA Program.

Given the number of exchange programs, the participation of students from our Partner MBAs also increases the diversity and the international dimension of each promotion.

This diversity adds tremendously to the richness of our MBA Program; all these various profiles pool their experiences together by working in study groups.

As of September 2010, the tuition fees for the 16-month program will be 45,000 € and other living expenses vary depending on whether you live on or off-campus.

The part-time MBA option tuition fees are 48,000 €.

The GMAT average for the last intake is 690. The range varies between 600 and 780. Please keep in mind that the GMAT is only one of the elements of the admission process.

No. French is not an entry requirement into the MBA Program. However, we recommend that candidates have a basic knowledge of French before entering the Program.

Foreign students, whose native language is not French, or candidates who have not studied in French, will have to take a French test, called TEF, upon entering the program in the Fall.

The purpose of this test is to define the participant's level of French and to determine what level of French courses he or she must follow: basic, intermediate or advanced. In addition to French, the MBA offers training in various other languages: Italian, Spanish and German.

Application fees are 130 €, and are paid by credit card when you submit your application on-line.

Your official academic transcripts (or certified copies) are copies of the original transcripts that have been certified by a notary or the institution which has conferred the award. Please send by courier/postal service. The copies themselves must be certified. Photocopies of certified documents, where the stamp or signature of the notary or institution has been reproduced are not original certified copies. If your transcripts are written in a language other than French or English, please check with your Admissions Advisor if a translation is also required.

Transcripts should be sent to:

France

We require copies of your official academic transcripts or the original documents. In France, it is possible only to have officially certified transcripts for foreign institutions.

We accept photocopies of French diploma's - these should be sent these by courier/postal service.

Letters of recommendation, like the application form, must be written in English. These recommendations are sent to interviewers who are made up of a team drawn from our international alumni base, some of whom do not speak French.

On the application form, you are offered over 20 possible cities and are asked to list 3 choices in order of preference. If your favourite location is not listed, please advise your dedicated Admissions Officer. You will be contacted to make arrangements to meet the interviewers, usually at their offices.

Interviews are conducted in English only.

The first stage of the admission procedure is the pre-selection process.

Pre-selected candidates are chosen on an extensive and comprehensive reading and evaluation of their application file by more than 2 of our Admissions team members. Once pre-selected, candidates are invited to go through our interview process.

The interview phase is your opportunity to provide us with a clearer picture of who you are, why you have applied to our program and how you feel you will contribute to the HEC community.

You will have two separate one-on-one interviews with MBA alumni, HEC professors or other representatives of the HEC network. It is your responsibility to contact the interviewers provided by the Admissions Office in order to arrange your interview by the stated deadline.

The interview starts with a 10-minute presentation made by the candidate on the subject of his/her choice. The main objective of this presentation is to judge the candidate's communication and presentation skills, the capability to synthesize a subject in 10 minutes while keeping the interest of the audience. The candidate may use any presentation method he or she wishes, such as transparencies, notes, slides, etc.

The presentation is then followed by 30 to 40 minutes of questions and answers, first on the presentation, then on the candidate's motivation and other elements mentioned in his/her application.

Thus, the candidate will make the same presentation twice. Questions, however, may vary from one interviewer to the next since there are no pre-defined rules or questions to be asked. In some way, one can say, that the interview defines its own direction based on the candidate's answers and reactions to various questions of the different interviewers.

Please remember that interviews are simply a better way to judge the candidate's personality, motivation, maturity, resistance to stress, etc., as opposed to only reading his/her file.

Within approximately 10 days after the close of the interview period, candidates have the final decision of the jury. The jury date is the decision date stated in the on-line account, so candidates may log on any time as of this date to find out the results.

At the HEC MBA Program, we look for an overall balance between academic background, professional experience, international exposure (languages are a component but not all of it…), a strong personality, and last but not least, your motivation.

Applications are processed continually. Our goal is to provide you with a final decision within 4 to 8 weeks from the time your application becomes complete.

This is an amazingly fast process, given the rigorous admission process which includes 3 official committee gatherings before the final Jury.
