When I saw the Local Roots, Global Reach concept, I immediately thought it was for me. My intuition was indeed correct. I enjoyed this international setting and not only in a professional way. I have learned a lot during this MBA, especially from other classmates on the program.
Here's a story about stereotypes and how I got them all wrong: One night, I decided to invite colleagues representing four different nationalities to a Japanese dinner in my room. Although the invitation time was 8:30 pm, I deliberately did not cook the meal to be ready on time, thinking that I was respecting the “French way”. The surprising thing is that an El Salvadorian student knocked on my door at 8:28 pm, a French student turned up at exactly 8:30 pm, and a Korean arrived at 8:40 pm. Finally, a Japanese student showed up at 9:00 pm, 30 minutes late. It should have been the other way round according to my ideas of national stereotypes! This kind of nice surprise is the enjoyable part of doing an international MBA.
