Africa Week : Showcasing Africa’s Talents

HEC MBA participants organized a week of dedicated social and professional events intended to promote African culture and business opportunities. The week-long series of events included a film showing, a conference with Amadou Diaw, Founder of the Institut Supérieur de Management, Sénégal, an exhibition with visiting artist, Yassine  Latoundji, and a conference on “Doing Business in Africa” that drew Patrice Hoppenot, President and Founder of Investisseur and Partenaire pour le Development, Francis Nebot, Vice President, Special Projects for Alcatel, and Moncef Cheikh-Rouhou, Professor of Managerial Economics and International Finance at HEC Paris. The week culminated in an African party that featured West African cuisine, African fashion, and a concert by world-renowned South African composer, Sam Tshabalala.

According to Africa Week co-organizer Patrick Taleng (HEC MBA 2009), “Africa week was an ideal opportunity for visiting guests as well as participants to showcase their talents and build their international network. Coming from Cameroon, I was very pleased to share my own culture, and serving as co-organizer for the event allowed me to strengthen and broaden my network and build my leadership skills.” By offering members of the HEC community opportunities to interact with African business leaders and artists, the Africa Week organizers fulfilled their mission to “raise the profile and awareness of Africa as a viable business and leisure destination.”
